Toribio Romo
Mission Church
On December 21, 2007, Bishop
Thomas Wenski purchased a night club building in the City of Mascotte
and turned it over to Blessed Sacrament to begin a Mission Church for
the people of Mascotte and vicinity. The process of planning the
demolition and renovation of the buildings began shortly thereafter.
An architect was hired to draw the preliminary plans and once the
plans were finalized the demolition process began. Hundreds of
volunteer hours made it possible to complete the demolition phase and
have continued into the remodeling phase. The estimated cost to
remodel is about $135,000.
The roofs of both the church and
administration buildings were completed in October, 2008 . A new
concrete floor was poured while the framing and other mechanical work
is in progress. As the air conditioning and electrical work is being
completed, plans are under way for tiling the floor and finishing the
interior. The completion and occupation of the church building could
be as early as Christmas day, contingent on inspections and receipt
of a Certificate of Occupancy.
Masses are currently being held
outdoors every other Sunday at 10:00 A.M. Once the church is
completed, the plans are to schedule at least two Masses in Spanish
and one Mass in English.
